"AOPA (UK) is moving to ensure that EASA lives up to its promise, that the IMC rating can continue in its present form in Britain - even if the rest of Europe rejects it...

The IMC rating is probably the biggest single contribution to GA safety in the UK. More that 25,000 ratings have been issued since inception. The CAA says only one fatal accident has occurred involving an IMC holder over a 30 year period". General Aviation, October 2009, p10.

While there had been some uncertainty over a future UK IMC/ IRR rating under EASA, it now seems certain to continue in its present form. There is also a simplified Compentecy Based IR for Private Pilots, with IMC training credits, and/or 'grand father' rights for existing pilots. In the meantime IMC / IRR training continues and existing IMC ratings will be 'converted' to an UK IRR (Instrument Rating Restricted). Contact us if you want to do this now.
